The Helenenquelle (not to be confused with the Helenenquelle near Bad Wildungen) pours refreshing water.
Above is a stone with an inscription.
Some benches are at the source, but they are not that inviting 😬.

The NSG Sondertal begins at the Helenenquelle with the Talgraben, the first nature reserve in Hesse. These are young notch valleys that cut into the soft clay schist during the Pleistocene. The area includes the two valleys up to above the waterfalls near Odershausen.
The forests are not used for forest purposes in the NSG, but are left to their own devices. You wander through a rustic canyon forest and if you are lucky you will see rare butterflies such as the blue-black ant blue, which is protected throughout Europe.
