Road Cycling Highlight
Sassetta was an important castle of the Pisan Republic, which was demolished in 1503 after the conquest by Florentino. In 1516, the original lords of the place, the Pisanis Orlandi of Sassetta, were banished. The village belonged to the Spanish-born Ramirez de Montalvo family, who came to Florence and married the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo I de 'Medici.
