The Brammer Nature Reserve is a 59.8-hectare area that has been protected since 2004. It is located southeast of the Harpstedt town center.

The purpose of the reserve is to preserve and develop the Brammer Moor and the surrounding moorland areas as valuable small moors with typical species and communities of raised bogs and transitional moors. A near-naturally managed forest that evolved from heathland has been incorporated, with various dwarf shrubs still predominate in its herbaceous layer.

The Brammer Moor was originally a drainage-free depression. The Annenriede, also called the "Annengraben" or "Hungergraben," was only established in 1847 to drain the moor above ground. Today, the Annenriede divides the Brammer Moor into two distinct sub-areas. While a downy birch and pine forest with interspersed hand-cut peat pits and bog heath has developed almost entirely on the western side, raised bog vegetation has developed in the east and northeast.
