The Mathematical-Physical Salon has been housed in the Zwinger Palace since 1728 and is one of the oldest collections of historical instruments in the world. Elector Augustus (1526-1586) collected tools and scientific instruments in the Dresden Royal Palace, which were used to calculate the altitude of the stars or the next solar eclipse, as well as to aim cannons. He purchased state-of-the-art equipment, primarily from the imperial cities of Nuremberg and Augsburg.Source: mathematisch-physikalischer-salon.skd.museum
