The Stettin City Gate in Ueckermünde was originally one of two city gates built in the Middle Ages. It was located directly across the Uecker River, hence its historical name, Ueckertor. The old country road to Stettin led through the gate and over the bridge. The city's main street, originally Lange Straße, now Ueckerstraße, ran between the two gates. In the Middle Ages, both gates formed the only access to the city, which was enclosed by a circular wall. In the 18th century, the city gates were given a new purpose. With the addition of gatehouses, they primarily served the Prussian tax collection. The Stettin City Gate was later demolished, and today the tour of the historic old town of Ueckermünde ends at the Stettin City Gate and the city harbor on the Uecker River.
