The Mutual Building is located at the bottom of Broad Street in the capital city of Bridgetown, Barbados. It is one of the most distinctive buildings in Bridgetown and a landmark of the city.
The Barbados Mutual Life Assurance Society (The Mutual) was founded in 1840 after emancipation and, until its demutualization, was the oldest surviving indigenous insurance company in the Caribbean. Naturally, it needed a headquarters in the capital, and its official building was built in the late Victorian style with silver domes, lending an elegant aura to the city's surroundings.
