Westerbur has had a windmill for many centuries, which due to its proximity to the coast also served as a sea mark. The original post mill was recorded in 1646 as a lease. Around 1750 it was known as a "stately mill", which was given to the miller Willem Galtets in a leasehold. The miller had to maintain it, while the supply of materials for new buildings was the responsibility of the established residents of Uppum, Westeraccum, Westerbur and Middelsbur.
The current Sielmühle was then built in 1872. It is the only surviving mill with a hexagon as a floor plan and originally had two grits.
In 1980, a lawyer and notary from the north took over the building and the basic conversion to a 'holiday home with wings' was made.
