This elegant structure, which lies east of the Great Temple of Isis, is the most iconic of the Philae monuments. It is a rectangular structure consisting of fourteen columns connected by screen walls and architraves. It is thought to have been built early in the reign of Augustus (30 BC-AD 14), the first Roman

emperor. It is likely that this structure served as a chapel for barque-shrines during temple. processions, but it was unfortunately never finished.

The only two scenes within the temple that were finished are located on the inner-face of the southern screen walls. These scenes show the Roman Emperor Trajan (AD 98 -117) performing temple rituals, which is why it is known as the Kiosk of Trajan.
