The north approach to the Gotthard Pass is certainly one of the classic Swiss Alpine passes. Starting from Andermatt, you can warm up on the flat section to Hospental. From there, the climb to the pass is steady and never too steep. A long stretch of cobblestones leads up to the top of the pass. It's a bit bumpier, but there's less traffic.
