The "Gold Needle" by artist Wolfgang Auer is the landmark of the roundabout at the eastern entrance to O'Brien Park next to the City Museum in Schwabach. Auer's work depicts an oversized marker pin, resembling the marker pins on maps. At the same time, the pin references needle-making and gold-beating, the predominant crafts in Schwabach.

The sphere has a diameter of three meters; the stainless steel column on which it sits is three meters long and has an inclination of 65°. This is approximately the inclination of the Earth's axis relative to its orbit around the sun.
