Goethe, himself a follower of Neptunism, visited the volcano in 1808, 1820 and 1822 to pursue scientific research in this dispute. [2] He described the volcano as follows:
"The Kammerbühl (hill), otherwise also Kammerberg, gets its name from a neighboring forest district and a facility there less houses, called the chamber. He shows himself, if one goes from Franzensbrunn to Eger, about half an hour to the right of the way. "
At his suggestion a few years after his death (1834-37) Kaspar Maria von Sternberg laid a tunnel system through the hill. When one came across the basalt-filled crater, the volcanic origin of the Komorní hůrka (Kammerbühl) was finally achieved
