According to local tradition, the "Church on the Mountain", after which Kirchberg has been called since the 14th century, was originally intended to be built in the village. However, before the roof was covered with wooden shingles, pigeons would have carried these shingles up the mountain. The Kirchbergers saw a sign from God in it and then built the church at its current location above the settlement.
