The place Ahausen was first documented in 1313 and 1338, in connection with the award of harvesting and fishing rights to the family of Heygen by Count Gottfried IV of Arnsberg. In 1363 the property was owned by the men of Schnellenberg, whose associated branch was nicknamed van Aehusen. The owners Johan and Gerlach of Aehusen pledged in 1428 the estate Ahausen to the city of Attendorn. In 1431 they were given back their property after being released. In the following years the owner changed several times.

1642 Johann Moritz von Schade to Grevenstein acquired the estate. This was after the acquisition to rebuild the estate. 1676 followed the new construction of the front building and the mansion. The portal and the castle chapel were rebuilt in 1723. In 1863, the district administrator and later secret government council transferred to Lippstadt, Freiherr Maximilian von Schade-Ahausen, Gut Ahausen to his grandnephew Max Franz von Rump. By inheritance fell in 1958 Good Ahausen to Count Ferdinand von Spee. The castle is still owned by the von Spee family.
