The beginnings of the prison in Piotrków date back to 1793, when the Prussians set it up in the Piarist monastery on Rwańska Street. In 1867, when the city became the capital of the Piotrków Governorate in the Russian partition, the Inquisitorial Prison was established here, in the years 1841-1860 it was the House of Research, and in the years 1861-1914 the Piotrków Prison. The old prison in Piotrków on Wojska Polskiego Street was closed in 2003.
