The Iron Hand symbolizes the Esslingen jurisdiction and is the symbol of the once free imperial city.
The original oath hand from the 17th century disappeared in 1715 and was replaced. In 1923 the iron hand was replaced again because the old specimen was rusted. In 2007 the Iron Hand was stolen. Finally, today's copy was donated in 2011 and stolen again in 2018/19.
