The Old Town Hall, a striking Alemannic half-timbered building of regional architectural significance, was built in 1530. The beams are arranged in the famous shape of the "Swabian Man", with attached foot and head bands. In 1977, the building was moved from its former location on Neckarstrasse to today's market square as part of the inner-city renovation. As part of a citizens' campaign, Plochingen residents contributed to this spectacular project with donations. Today, civil weddings take place in the Old Town Hall, and the local council also meets here. Since November 2000, the mural "Allegory of Good Government" has been in the meeting room, which was created by the Leipzig artist Michael Triegel on behalf of the city. The picture shows an allegorical representation of Plochingen on the threshold of the millennium and thematically ties in with important models of town hall furnishings from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. In front of the panorama of Plochingen, the personified virtues and goals and the social commitment that may characterize the community and its decision-makers are symbolically represented.
