    Hiking

Entrance is free to the monument. Best time to experience the amazing wildflowers is early April. All roads are dirt and sand, with many washboard sections. So hiking is preferable on the trails at some distance from the road to avoid dust and vehicles. A few yards past the entrance sign there is an overview of Soda Lake, and several info panels with maps
A little past the entrance station South Lake Road pavement ends and it reverts to a gravel road, sometimes rutted and washboard riddled, but bikeable and very scenic. On this Southeastern side it follows a canyon along several tiers of seasonal stream, depositing salt in flat spots that remains when the water evaporates.
