Uninhabited Delos is a famous archaeological site, an ancient place of worship for the gods of music, song and poetry. As the island has been uninhabited since the seventh century BC, the integrity of the archaeological sites has been largely preserved. Restoration work has not compromised the authenticity of the site as has often been the case elsewhere. For these reasons, as well as its historical and archaeological importance in ancient times, Delos was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1990.
