Pertisau borders the Karwendel nature conservation area, which is one of the largest nature conservation areas in Tyrol (727 km²).
There are several two-thousanders around Pertisau, such as the Sonnjoch, Lamsenspitze, Dristenkopf and Rappenspitze.
Pertisau was first mentioned in the 14th century in a deed of the St. Georgenberg-Fiecht Abbey. The Habsburgs discovered Pertisau in the 15th century by hunting in the surrounding forests and fishing on Lake Achen until 1918.
Tourism started in the mid-19th century.
Today Pertisau is a center of quality hotels, guesthouses, holiday apartments and alpine guesthouses.
