This German World War II naval mine was washed up on the rocks near Belt Road in New Plymouth in February 1943. It is believed that the floating mine was laid by a German warship off the coast of South Australia, but became detached from its moorings and was carried across the Tasman Sea by the westerly current.
The sculpture cost $35,000 to design, manufacture and install and is a reminder that people are killed by military weapons.
