The Strengbach regularly overflowed during floods; the Strengbach was relocated westwards to the Reichsbahn line several times between 1912 and 1954 due to the openings and extensions of the Leopold, Theodor and Pistor opencast mines and was embanked or piped over long, linear stretches; below Roitzsch the Strengbach also served to drain mine water.
