The Rivalta Monastery was founded in the 11th century, and subsequently expanded, rebuilt, and remodeled until 1813, when the abbey church was demolished (the monastery had already been suppressed in 1792). Afterwards, it had various uses, until it became the property of the Municipality of Rivalta. Today, the various structures are restored and used for various purposes: middle school, meeting space, wedding hall, museum space...
From the outside, three blocks appear: the monastery itself; the old mill, still with its wheel; the Commenda farmhouse. In a special covered space outside the main body, you can see the remains of the abbey church, dating back to the 12th century; the remains of a previous church, perhaps from the 10th century or even earlier, are visible inside, in a 19th-century chapel. Between the two bodies of the mill, the impressive water wheel is still present.
The complex overlooks a beautiful square paved with cobblestones; behind the complex, a small park with sports areas.
It is located at the beginning of the Rivalta - San Luigi cycle path, which intercepts the Dojrone cycle path: it is therefore very easy and safe to reach. It is not normally open to visitors inside, but even just from the outside it offers a magnificent spectacle.
