The water house was built in 1913 as part of Holzbronn's water supply in the Erchingen area and from 1977 - after it was no longer needed - the FVG-Holzbronn e.V. renovated it over two years, converted it into a hiking lodge and thus saved it from demolition. The hiking lodge was finally inaugurated in May 1979. In order to raise the financial means for the renovation of the water house, the FVG-Holzbronn e.V. organized a total of four international hiking days between 1975 and 1978, some of which had over 3,000 participants.

Since then, this idyllic spot has been maintained by the FVG-Holzbronn e.V. and can be rented. The adjacent, usable meadow has an area of around 600 m². There are two barbecue areas with a total of around 50 seats. The water house is located 300 m from the edge of Holzbronn. Sanitary facilities and electricity are also available.
