Until 1999, the brine for the graduation towers was pumped exclusively from the historic Borlach shaft. However, this brine did not meet the high requirements that had to be met in order to be recognized as a state healing spring. Thus, in 1999, a new well was successfully drilled not far from the previous shaft.

The Borlach Tower pumped brine from a depth of 223 m, from which table salt was then extracted and fed to the spa facilities, e.g. the graduation tower. The tower is named after Johann Gottfried Borlach, who made the brine pumping possible with the construction of the tower.More info: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borlachturm
