"the women's path", so named to pay tribute to the courage of many women. They were then praying on the path when little boys arrived, shouting: "Here are our men running away, we are lost!" The first fugitives arrived shouting "every man for himself!" The women, 300 in number, saw the rout, left their rosary, armed themselves with clubs and stones, and rushed against the enemy, dragging the men behind them while waiting for Charette to arrive. Thus began the battle of Torfou.
