The heath near the village of Schwindebeck only has a spread of a few hundred meters between the adjacent forests, but it does stretch for miles on sandy paths. The paths lead to the Feldherrenhügel, from where there is a great view of the elongated Schwindebecker Heide and the surrounding landscape.
The name of the survey indicates the former use as a military training area when British tanks turned the area into a sandy lunar landscape. The Schwindebecker Heide has been a successful example of the revitalization of heathland since 1990.
The Heide-Panorama-Weg hiking trail leads through the Schwindebecker Heide, and the yellow directional arrows on a blue background also lead to the Schwinde spring, a true natural wonder.
The beautiful town lies between Soderstorf and Bispingen, 8 minutes by car from Amelinghausen. Both at the Schwinde spring and at Kreisstrasse 44, parking spaces are an ideal starting point for the hike through the Schwindebecker Heide.
