Today, the Mitra Experimental Estate, together with the Mitra College and the Bom Jesus de Valverde College, is part of the Mitra Campus of the University of Évora. This includes a set of buildings that include laboratories and facilities of the MED (Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development), other laboratories, classrooms, offices and various support infrastructures, as well as housing for visiting professors and researchers. The agricultural area used is mainly occupied by cork and holm oak groves, scrubland and pastures, also including olive groves, pine forests and vineyards, in addition to the vegetable garden and orchard. The habitats associated with these areas are joined by the area surrounding the Valverde river, corresponding to the former hunting ground, which has a considerable wealth of flora and fauna. The Mitra Estate is therefore a living laboratory of inestimable value for the scientific activities and teaching of the University of Évora.
