On the site where this chapel stands, there used to be a farm with a chapel next to it. At the end of the Second World War, both were hit by a flying bomb.
Miraculously, the large farming family (father, mother and seven children) emerged unharmed
from the devastation. After the walls of the house had collapsed, the roof and beams formed a kind of protective cocoon over the sleeping residents.
In 1951, the prayer house was rebuilt on the border between Ingooigem and Tiegem. The respective patron saints, positioned on both sides of the chapel, look out over their
municipalities: Saint Arnold is on the Tiegem side, Saint Anthony is on the Ingooigem side. The short text on the front of the chapel was written
by Torie Mulders, miller, village philosopher, author and good friend of Streuvels.
