Location: Markkleeberg, Landkreis Leipzig, Saxony, Germany
The Markkleeberger lake originated from the former open pit as Espenhain. Between 1939 and 1994 lignite was mined here. After completion of the coal mining began in 1999, the flooding of the lake. The final stand has been reached at +113.0 m asl, so that the Markkleeberg Lake could be handed over to the public on 15.07.2006.
The varied circular route around the lake is ideal for hiking, cycling or a Segwaytour. There are cafés and restaurants on the lakeside promenade.
In 2013, the Kanuparkschleuse was completed. Thus, the Markkleeberger See is connected by an 800 m long canal passage with the neighboring Störmthaler See.

Very nice area for biking, hiking, boat trips and the great Kanupark.Hier everyone finds his balance, even culinary with the lake or the Neuseenland Stüble near the Parkplatzes.👍👍👍
