    Hiking

The Backbone Trail descends into the wooded Latigo Canyon and then ascends to Newton Motorway, continuing into Upper Solstice Canyon. The trail is well-marked but includes steep, rocky sections east of the Latigo Trailhead. If you hike it in spring, you might see plenty of wildflowers along the way.

The trail is shared with mountain bikers and horses, and dogs on leashes are allowed.

Backbone Trail stretches for 67 miles, so you can plan a longer hike, or simply enjoy the walk through the canyon.
