“The Mercareccia Lakes are two small bodies of water located within the Monterano Nature Reserve, in the province of Rome. These lakes formed spontaneously at the bottom of a former abandoned tuff quarry, renaturalizing over time.
They are immersed in a primordial and wild landscape and represent an important stopping point for migratory birds.
The surrounding environment has spontaneously renaturalized, creating a unique ecosystem.”.
