This shrine is the site of the legend of Ihikari's well.

In the "Nihon Shoki" and "Kojiki," when Emperor Jimmu was on a tour from Uda to Yoshino, a person emerged from the well. It is said that the person's body was glowing and he had a tail. The story goes that when the later Emperor Jimmu asked "Who are you?" the person introduced himself as "Kunitsukami, my name is Ihikari." It seems that in ancient times it was also called Juunisha Gongen.
