An ancient Russian settlement, which is apparently connected with the events of 1209, when Vladimir Prince Yuri Vsevolodovich defeated the Ryazan princes "at Osovy". The Osovets fortress was destroyed by Batu's hordes in 1238, having existed for only a few decades. According to legend, the fortress was founded by Prince Vladimir Krasnoe Solnyshko, who wanted to found a city here (the future Vladimir)
