The Sieverstedter Hörnerplatz marks an important old wayside cross on the western edge of the Angeln region. This is where the Ochsenweg (Oxen Way) or "Eastern Military Road" and the east-west-running "Angelboweg" intersected.

The two artists Thomas Jaspert and Michael Harder created the Ochsenweg Horns.
They explained the meaning and significance of their work in 1998 with the following words:

"The Ochsenweg Horns are points of contact between past and present.
They mark the course of the historic "Eastern Military Road" ("Ochsenweg").
The purpose of this waymarking is to impressively connect the old long-distance route as a cultural route with the traces of the past that have been preserved along its periphery.
The Ochsenweg Horns are intended to contribute to preserving a shared piece of the past that has helped shape the cultural history of Germany and Denmark."
