The Hemelsdaal ("Himmelstal") monastery, founded in 1197 in Ophoven, Kinrooi, for noble nuns, was relocated eastward before 1258 and existed under the name Dalheim ("Valley Home") until 1802. The immediate superior was Kamp Abbey. The name is preserved in the present-day village of Dalheim. The Dalheim Cross, considered miraculous, is located in St. Christopher's Cathedral in Roermond. The Cistercian monastery is not to be confused with Dalheim Abbey (Lichtenau), Dalheim Abbey (Mainz), or the College of St. Ludwig near Dalheim.
