Wangen-Hinterhorn was discovered in 1856 as the first prehistoric lakeside settlement in the shallow water zone on Lake Constance. The finds ended up in British, French and German museums. The sequence of layers at the site shows three settlement phases with important reference complexes for the early and middle "Pfyner culture" and elements of the "Michelsberg culture", and several layers of the "Horgen culture" are represented. Large parts of the cultural layers with the remains of burned houses and exceptionally well-preserved textiles are still lying undisturbed in the ground.

The route near Wangen has been significantly improved and you can now get off the road at the campsite and past a beer garden.

The stilt houses of Wangen are UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Since June 27, 2011, the pile dwellings in Wangen-Hinterhorn belong to the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Numerous interesting finds from the settlements of the Neolithic period are to be seen here in the museum, among other things also original finds of the Wangener citizen Kaspar Löhle, who discovered 1854 as the first the pile dwelling settlements in Germany.
The museum is housed in a listed timbered half-timbered house in the construction of farmhouses in Hegau and on the Höri about 500 years ago. It was built in 1618 in the center of the first documented in 1155 farmers and fishing village Wangen. On the initiative of the Förderverein Fischerhaus, the building was saved from being demolished and redeveloped in 1986 at its present location on the banks of the lake.
In 2016, the association "Museum Fischerhaus" was able to complete a long-awaited project and built a pile dwelling house next to the fisherman's house in the shallow water zone of the Untersee, which is very close to the original buildings. Thus, a realistic scene from the life of the people on the Wangener Hinterhorn was created 5900 years ago. In the pile dwelling house is a small exhibition and the Institute of wetland and underwater archeology of the State Monuments Office in Hemmenhofen introduces with panels in the history of the Stone Age people.

Very inconspicuous compared to Uhldingen-Mühlhofen, you could almost drive by without noticing it.
