From old writings it is known that there used to be a chapter in Lovenjoel. This belonged to the chapter of Celles, and later Visé. The exact date that the patronage was abolished is unknown. In the 15th century a new Gothic church was built, of which only the lower part of the church tower remains. The church is centrally located between the castle of the lords de Spoelberch in the Groot Park and the Felixhof in the Klein Park.

In 1853 the old church was demolished, except for the lower part of the tower. The neo-Gothic church, designed by architect Alexander van Arenbergh, was consecrated in 1854. Striking pieces of furniture are 2 Renaissance confessionals, the marble gravestone of the lords de Spoelberch and the organ that was recognized as a monument. In addition, there are two paintings, including 'Saint George and the Dragon' by P.J. Verhaegen. The church was classified within the village view of Lovenjoel in 1994.

Next to the church are the rectory (destroyed in 1914 but rebuilt), 2 gravestones of the gentlemen de Spoelberch and the war memorial.
