The Umbrella Hall, located on the east bank of Oike Pond in Shinzaike, was built in 1674 by the patronized vassals and local farmers as a memorial hall for Honda Masakatsu, the lord of Koriyama Domain, to pray for his soul. The building has an unusual shape, standing on a single square pillar measuring about 40cm on each side, with a square roof covered with real tiles on top, and is called the Umbrella Hall (Karakasa-do) because its overall shape resembles a Chinese umbrella. At some point, it also became the object of popular faith, praying for a peaceful afterlife.
