The Tusentrappene (Staircase of 1000 Steps) is a staircase in the Norwegian city of Ålesund. It is located in the city center of Ålesund on the island of Nørvøy and leads from the western end of Lihauggata between the houses at Kongens gate 6 and 8 down to Kongens gate.Although the staircase has 1000 steps according to its name, it actually only has 53 steps. The name was probably a derisive name for the previous staircase, which rose steeply up the hill in one piece with 39 steps. The current staircase was built in the second half of the 1930s. It leads up the hill in several twisted sections. At the beginning of 2009, the Norwegian broadcaster NRK chose the Tusentrappene as the monument of the month. However, it is not formally registered as a monument.[ Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tusentrappene ]
