The former Catholic Court Church (now officially the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity) in Dresden, dedicated to the Holy Trinity (Sanctissimae Trinitatis), is the cathedral of the Diocese of Dresden-Meissen and a parish church of Dresden. Along with the Wettin Crypt, it also houses the historic burial site of the electors and kings of Saxony.

The Court Church was built in the Baroque style by Gaetano Chiaveri from 1739 to 1751 under Elector Frederick Augustus II of Saxony. Elevated to a co-cathedral in 1964, it became the cathedral of the Diocese of Dresden-Meissen in 1980 when the bishopric was relocated from Bautzen to Dresden. As a former Saxon court church, it is connected to the Residenzschloss (Residenzschloss) by a bridge over Chiaverigasse. It stands on the banks of the Elbe River in the Old Town, between the Schlossplatz and Theaterplatz squares. Its planning began a decade after construction began on the Protestant Frauenkirche, which dominates the Neumarkt square 300 meters away. The church building is now owned by the Free State of Saxony. Among its furnishings, the monumental altarpiece by Anton Raphael Mengs, the Baroque pulpit by Balthasar Permoser, and the preserved Silbermann organ are noteworthy. (Source: Wikipedia)
