Lake Cabrera

The main trail to Lago Cabrera is known for its challenging and varied terrain. Hikers should expect a rocky path for much of the ascent. The primary trail to Lago Cabrera is considered intermediate in difficulty, covering 15 kilometers round trip and taking 7 to 8 hours. It's not typically recommended for beginners or very young children due to its length and rocky terrain. There are no explicitly designated 'easy walks' directly around the lake itself, as the area is quite remote and wild. For families, it's best to assess the fitness level of all participants before attempting the main trek.

The natural hot springs at Lago Cabrera, which belong to the Rupulafquén indigenous community, are accessible by crossing the lake by boat. These rustic pools are nestled within the forest and offer temperatures between 39 and 45 °C. Visitors typically arrange boat transport with local guides or community members once they reach the lake.

Public transportation directly to the Lago Cabrera trailhead from Hornopirén is generally not available. Access typically involves a drive on a gravel road, often requiring a 4x4 vehicle or arranging private transport with local operators in Hornopirén. Given the remote nature of the area, planning your transport in advance is crucial.
