It owes its name to the builder, Emperor Rudolf II. The Latin inscription refers to him, which not only lists his titles, but also states the year of completion, 1604. The crowning coat of arms is a cast; the original is in the passage to the second courtyard. The representative portal facing the city, which was originally equipped with a drawbridge, stands out with its elegant Renaissance forms from the austere simplicity of the rest of the building, which was only partially habitable when the unfortunate emperor died in 1612.
