Facts about Haavikkolehto: On the borderlands of Suonenjoki and Rautalampi, along Route 9, there lies a nature reserve that is part of the Natura 2000 network and contains a geologically rare boulder field of national significance. The area is made special by its large, moss-covered boulders, the rugged deadwood trees marked by ancient forest fires, and old aspens. Protected caves are located along the edges of the area. The terrain is difficult to traverse, and there are no trails.

The boulder field was formed at the end of the last Ice Age, when boulders carried by the glacier accumulated in the area. Among these rocks, boulder caves have formed, the largest of which is known as Karhuluola (Bear Cave).
