The Church of S. Luca was founded in 1188 by Oberto Spinola, an important politician of that period. The area where the church was built had been incorporated into the city walls a few years earlier. In the first half of the seventeenth century, it was decided to completely rebuild it in Baroque style, which began in 1626 and was completed in 1650.
