Metzgplatz is a small but historically significant square in Augsburg's old town, named after the former "Metzg" or butcher's house that stood there in the Middle Ages. This was the headquarters of the Augsburg butchers' guild, which played an important role in the Middle Ages and early modern period.

A special highlight at Metzgplatz is the Augsburg City Butcher's Building, a Renaissance building from 1609 that served as a slaughterhouse. It was designed by the famous city architect Elias Holl, who also designed Augsburg's town hall. The building had an advanced water supply at the time to improve hygienic conditions for meat production.

Today, Metzgplatz is a charming spot that retains a bit of the flair of the past. Surrounded by small shops and cafes, it attracts visitors and locals alike and offers a beautiful view of historic buildings.
