San Servolo is the main church of Buje-Buie and one of the most important late Baroque monuments in Istria. Built on a previous Roman temple, it has monumental dimensions and is used only on the most solemn occasions, for masses on the occasion of the feast of San Servolo or for the organ festival which in itself is the cultural event par excellence. The church as we see it today was built in the second half of the 18th century, on the site of a three-nave Romanesque-Gothic church from the 13th century. Elements of the older building were inserted into the new one, so that they are still visible on the façade today.
The interior of the church is breathtaking.
The portal is richly decorated and is one of the most beautiful in Istria, while the unfinished façade also bears witness to the conditions during the late Venetian administration, the period in which San Servolo was built. The interior is breathtaking: the place is truly monumental and diaphanous, and the single nave is covered by a barrel vault. In addition to the seven richly decorated altars, the pulpit and the chandelier, the church's rich inventory includes the famous organ built in 1791 by Gaetano Callido.
