In mountaineering literature, Klek is often called the cradle of Croatian mountaineering and alpinism. Klekova stijena below the top was the first school of Croatian alpinists and a large number of first-class climbing ascents were performed there.
According to folklore, there is a kingdom of witches on Klek, who have become a symbol of the Klek mountain and the town of Ogulin.
