The Bonifatiusweg / Bonifatiusroute leads from Mainz to Fulda. bonifatiusroute.de
Saint Boniface had determined during his lifetime that he wanted to find his last resting place in the monastery of Fulda. After he was murdered on June 5, 754 at Dokkum in Friesland, his body was transferred to Mainz. On July 5, 754 his body was prepared in the St. John's Church for further transfer. Probably the entrails were removed, burned and buried. Abbot Sturmius and Bishop Lullus of Mainz led the seven-day funeral procession to his destination. On July 9, 754, the mortal remains were first brought by a ship to Hochheim. From here it went on a 130 km long way to Fulda. On July 16, 754 reached Fulda and put the corpse in the monastery Fulda at. For a long time faithful pilgrims followed in the footsteps of the saint from Hochheim to Fulda. As the pilgrimages ended, the course of Bonifatiusweg was forgotten.

The road could be better advertised in some places, but it's worth it.
