Saint Boniface had determined during his lifetime that he wanted to find his last resting place in the monastery of Fulda. After he was murdered on June 5, 754 at Dokkum in Friesland, his body was transferred to Mainz. On July 5, 754 his body was prepared in the St. John's Church for further transfer. On July 9, 754, the mortal remains were first brought by a ship to Hochheim. From here it went on a 130 km long way to Fulda.
