The Fröttmaninger Heide counts together with the legally protected nature reserves Panzerwiese and Hartelholz, Garchinger heath, Echinger Lohe and Mallertshofer wood as well as the heaths of the airfield Oberschleißheim with Korbinianiholz in the north of Munich to the most valuable natural treasures of Bavaria.
The pagans with their typical forests are part of the European natural heritage "Natura 2000" and were jointly announced in 2001 under the title "Heath and Lohwälder north of Munich" as a fauna-flora-habitat area (FFH area) to the European Union ,
Since 9 May 2016, the Southern Fröttmaninger Heide is a 347-acre nature reserve.
