This place was once designated SF-25C, home to a Nike surface-to-air guided missile system during the Cold War. The peak is called "Rock 2" Elevation 2024. The body of water you can see in the westerly-facing photos is the San Francisco Bay. The body of land behind it is the peninsula. On a clear day you can see even further to see Sutro Tower, and even the Pacific Ocean. I love this place! This was one of my first trips out on the trails since moving to California. I think I got lucky!
I should also mention that the radio tower and the scenic vistas are on land that belongs to EDMUD, the local water and sewage treatment facility. A permit is required to go up to the tower itself, but one can be easily acquired here: ebmud.com/recreation/trail-use-permits.
There was a million dollars worth of damages done to this tower by vandals in the summer of 2013:
